Catalog Doctor

With Catalog Doctor you can diagnose and validate the data objects in a catalog.

In the Catalog Doctor window, there are four tabs: Connection,  Tables and Fields, Formulas, and Queries.

Clicking each tab, you can get the respective checking page: Connection page, Tables and Fields page, Formulas page and Queries page. Each page can check one kind of Data object.  Checking for each page will be conducted under the following conditions:

• You have never activated that page.
• You activate that page from the previous page.  For example, you switch from the Connections page to the Tables and Fields page, or switch from the Tables and Fields page to Formulas page.

Connection
Allows you to modify the connection with advanced options.

Tables and Fields
Checks if the raw table/view of the mapped table/view exists in the database.  It also checks if the raw column of the DB-Field exists in the database.  If it exists, then checks if the stored information such as SQL date type matches the raw column in the database.

Formulas
Checks if formulas and summaries have correct syntax.

Queries
Checks if the mapped tables/views referred to by the query exist in the catalog.

It also checks if the mapping fields are valid:

• The DB-fields of the table/view match that saved in the query;
• The formulas and parameters can be found in the catalog.

Notes:

• For convenience, in the documents database refers to the raw database connected to via JDBC or ODBC, mapped table/view refers to the table/view in the catalog, raw table/view refers to the table/view in the raw database, and raw columns refers to the columns in the raw database.
• Catalog Doctor diagnoses each type of data object independently.  For example, when it checks formulas, it only looks into the definition of parameters and DB-Fields in the current catalog.  The system does not check if the DB-Fields exist in the connected database.  When the system checks the queries, it will only look for the mapping fields currently in the catalog and does not confirm whether the formulas are valid.
