Yesterday, we hosted our 10th webinar of the 2011 year, showcasing more of the superior data visualization aspects of our new product, JDashboard. Our June 22 webinar presentation highlighted the new Flash capabilities that allow users to instantly bring their data to life. Senior Product Manager, Greg Harris, demonstrated the ease in building and using a new Dashboard in just 2 minutes! After the webinar we answered listener questions about the content, and a quick preview is provided below of the Top 4 questions from yesterday’s presentation. 1) In the Dashboard, can you switch between AJAX and Flash?
Users have the ability to choose AJAX or Flash at the Library Component level, making it simple for the component developer to take any of the visualization components (such as charts and gauges and controls), and design those to be either AJAX or Flash with a simple click of a check box. There’s no difference in the actual development of the component making it easy to build and publish both versions in the Component Library so that the choice can be made on the user level as well. For example, your user is on the iPad and cannot access Flash, you can still build their dashboard using the AJAX version of the components.
2) What is the response time for running reports?
Report response time typically depends on how long the query takes and the number of records that are returned from the query. However, JReport works through each component on a different thread so, as soon as data is ready for any of the components it will be displayed. JReport doesn’t need to wait for all of the component to load for it to show up on-screen. The high performance of this feature was displayed during the demo.
3) Is there a limit to the number of components that can go into the Component library?
There’s really no limit to the number of components that can be placed in the Component Library since it is a type of folder. However, to make it easier for end users, you may want to organize your Component Library into different folder names so that they can find the components they’re interested in, such as Sales components, HR components, CRM components and so on, more readily. An individual dashboard can actually choose components from any number of additional folders as well.
4) Can you link some components to be dynamically connected with interactions, but others to be independent?
Yes, the Component Library developer can control which components will be linked and which ones will be independent when they create them. The mapping table controls the different components and allows you to edit those dynamically connected. Also, maybe your components use different names for the same field (for example one might use “nation” and one might use “country”) its easy for the Report Developer to build a mapping table so that filters will select country would also select nation if desired.
