Boomi Software’s Customers to Benefit from the Powerful, Easy-to-Use JReport Reporting Engine to Improve Understanding of Business-Level Events


Rockville, MD – November 21, 2005 – Boomi and Jinfonet today announced an agreement to embed JReport, Jinfonet’s 100% Java-based reporting solution, into Boomi’s enterprise integration platform. This partnership will provide business activity monitoring to Boomi’s clients comprised primarily of mid-sized companies.

Boomi’s enterprise application integration (EAI) and business-to-business (B2B) integration capabilities will combine with JReport to provide insight into the performance of the integration software. More importantly, it will provide insight into business-level events through business activity monitoring (BAM).

BAM is the result of a combination of technologies – specifically integration and analytics – that monitor an enterprise’s business processes and IT activities through the use of specialized software components. BAM solutions alert individuals to changes in the business so they can take the appropriate actions. This software equivalent of “minding the shop” builds up a picture of business activity by monitoring and recording metrics from various different sources within an organization’s software infrastructure.

This information is pulled together through an integration platform. Using analytics, this data can be put in context and turned into business insight. Because the combined Boomi/Jinfonet offering understands the business context of the information it collects, it can translate disparate software events. For example, it translates information about the creation of sales orders and invoicing into information about how the business is performing. It can calculate inventory turns or days sales outstanding and provide context for what this information means to a business.

“While companies have been talking about BAM for years, it has not been a practical reality for small to midsized companies,” said John Gularson, executive vice president for Jinfonet. “It required purchasing expensive offerings from multiple vendors which then had to be integrated together. Now companies have access to an out-of-the-box BAM solution that not only requires one license fee, it requires minimal maintenance. Because JReport is 100% Java-based, it is embedded directly into Boomi’s integration offering. It is a native part of the application and requires no separate maintenance.”

The inclusion of JReport in the Boomi platform also provides systems management information for the integration offering. JReport provides Boomi users with information about their specific installation of Boomi’s software – information such as peak load times, document processing status and receipt acknowledgement status. This type of information allows Boomi customers to view potential sources of technical issues before they become a reality, allowing for preemptive mitigation.

In its search to create a comprehensive BAM solution, Boomi needed to select a reporting offering that could be embedded directly into its own offering. To that end, Boomi sought a Java-based offering that would easily integrate into its own Java architecture.

During their search, Boomi evaluated all the major reporting vendors, including iNetSoft and Crystal Reports. They chose JReport to maintain the integrity of their Java application. The Java-based architecture of JReport meant Boomi did not have to make special accommodations for the products structure. Additionally, Boomi was impressed with JReport’s power and design flexibility. Jinfonet also provided the strongest customer support.
