Product Enhancements and Certified Ready for IBM Grid Computing

ROCKVILLE, MD. – December 07, 2007 – Jinfonet Software, a leader in reporting and operational business intelligence solutions, announces the General Release of JReport 8.2, the latest release of its flagship reporting solution, touting more than 60 enhancements. JReport 8.2 delivers these enhancements in three key areas: Performance improvements for large reports, greater developer flexibility and an enhanced user experience.

Working in conjunction with the IBM Innovation Center to develop performance benchmarks, Jinfonet was able to demonstrate performance improvements in on-demand reporting, batch reports, and viewing pre-generated reports. The completion of the IBM validation means that JReport 8.2 has become certified as Ready for IBM Grid Computing. Utilizing the test results, Jinfonet was able to recognize performance gains of up to 49% in this latest JReport release.

One key performance improvement in 8.2 is the reduction of the file size of large report results, which leads to greatly reduced I/O and processing time. In addition, the JReport footprint (memory usage for reports) has been reduced, resulting in much better scalability. And with improved overall pipeline processing, report access and rendering are expedited. With this release users can run large reports in the background, allowing for report status monitoring while other JReport tasks are carried out. This allows for multi-tasking, increasing productivity while running large reports. 8.2 also introduces improved task queue management from basic FIFO to advanced priority based, and the improved data buffer configuration and management, which allows for fine tuning of the system performance.

Report bursting capability is another way in which performance has improved in 8.2. With bursting functionality, a report can be run once and distributed to multiple recipients in any output format, with view access granted based on permissions.

The reporting experience is enriched by the export to dynamic charts in excel. By linking charts to cells in the excel spreadsheet, JReport gives users the ability to perform quick “what if” analysis, empowering the user with faster, more informed data analysis for critical decision making.

One goal of the release is to make it easier for developers to use. Tooltips in JReport Designer now provide brief technical helps for the rich set of report properties at the user’s fingertips. In addition, developers will find the integration of JReport with their application servers easier in 8.2, allowing for HTTP access for both remote integration and standalone JReport Enterprise Server.

The end user experience is improved with better self-service reporting. 8.2 simplifies the creation and manipulation of new reports and end user data analysis. With the addition of several new report elements, users benefit from a more customizable experience, since they have what amounts to a toolbox that will allow them to tailor reports to their specific needs.

With version 8.2, users benefit from a more intuitive user interface. Interactive reporting boasts a new expand/collapse capability, allowing the user to view/hide detail sections of the report. This gives them the ability to see more details as needed, or get a higher level view of their report data. Additionally, the new interface displays an improved menu structure which is easily customized by the end user so that they view only the functions they need, avoiding unnecessary interface clutter.

Known for being an innovator in embedded reporting and operational business intelligence, Jinfonet brings JReport 8.2 to market as the solution that is simple to deploy and manage for IT, and provides flexible and robust reporting and analytics for end users. With customers such as Target and Visa and several mid to large sized ISV’s utilizing JReport, this latest release will build upon the solution’s ten years of success.
