Jinfonet Announces General
Availability of JReport 7
  Jinfonet Software Awarded
GSA Schedule

Jinfonet recently announced the availability of JReport 7, the latest release of the industry's leading 100% J2EE reporting solution.

JReport 7 was built for seamless integration with any application, in any environment. It's architecture leverages J2EE standards, simplifying the embedding process with a component-based application model. A rich set of APIs allows any combination of JReport features to be embedded as an integral part of any application.

JReport 7 combines JReport's proven embedded reporting capabilities with ad hoc reporting and analysis. New to JReport is an ad hoc report designer that enables any user, regardless of skill level, to easily build reports via the Web. With both banded and tabular report design options, users dynamically create reports by simply dragging and dropping data elements. In addition, JReport 7 offers an integrated Crystal Converter that automatically migrates any Crystal report to JReport for easy editing and analysis.

Jinfonet is offering a trial of JReport 7, so you can see for yourself how easy it is to embed robust production reporting, ad hoc reporting, and data analysis into your application. To get your trial, click here, or call 240-477-1000.M

Jinfonet is pleased to announce that JReport is now listed on the United States GSA Schedule. Also referred to as Federal Supply Schedules, GSA Schedules provide federal and state government agencies access to high-quality products and services at the most-favored customer price.

As government agencies continue to consolidate and standardize on enterprise solutions, they are actively seeking technologies like JReport that can leverage existing infrastructure to minimize additional spending. JReport integrates easily into legacy systems, can access any data source, and is uniquely capable of preserving data structures in hierarchical data sources like XML and JavaBeans. In addition, JReport leverages existing security infrastructures, providing a highly flexible model for managing user authentication and controlling data access.

"Government agencies now have direct access to our state-of-the-art embedded reporting solution," says John Gularson, Jinfonet's vice-president of sales. "By shortening the purchase process, we can better help our government customers focus on their information delivery demands."

JReport's GSA schedule number is GS-35F-0702P.

Tech Tip of the Month
Using the JReport Server API for Embedded Reporting

The JReport Server API allows developers to embed JReport within their own application, providing users with access to reporting capabilities through a familiar interface.

Following is an example of an error that may be encountered when running JReport Server API:

java.sql.SQLException: The database is already in use by another process
at org.hsqldb.Trace.getError(Unknown Source)
at org.hsqldb.Trace.error(Unknown Source)

This exception usually occurs due to one of the following reasons:

  • another instance of JReport Enterprise Server is running outside of the application
  • another application is calling the API
  • JReport is also running as a stand-alone server or integrated servlet

The reason that only one instance of JReport can run at a single time is because resource files cannot be shared among multiple JReport server instances. When this exception is encountered, you must make sure only one instance of JReport Enterprise Server is running and close any additional instances.
